Put lighter items on the top of your pack and in the lid that you may need access to while you're hiking, including first aid, snacks, a rain jacket, sunscreen etc. Fill out your pockets with water bottles, tent poles, snacks, pack cover, bathroom kit and other lightweight items you'll want to grab quickly

Try to do some walking that mimics the conditions you will experience on your trek as closely as you can. Also don't forget that hills are your friend! The more you practice on hills, the more prepared you'll be for your trek, especially if you're trekking in the mountains. The same goes for stairs.
